Purpose
The purpose of the LEPA Award Program is to recognize on an annual basis those individuals who have performed exceptionally well in their positions to protect the citizens of the state through prevention of accidents, emergency response and effective management/mitigation of emergency situations.
Description
The LEPA Awards program is designed to give all Louisiana emergency responders, local officials, fire fighters, police, industry, business and government officials an opportunity to be nominated and recognized by the association for outstanding contributions in their field. There are several different categories or types of awards. Some categories require that a current membership be in place for the nomination to be received. Awards are presented annually at the LEPA/GOHSEP Workshop.
Categories of Awards
Presidential Award - This is the highest award of all categories. The award recipient must be a member of LEPA and is chosen by the President of LEPA
may be among the candidates who received other awards. This is the highest award of honor bestowed on the individual by the President in recognition of the services provided to the state and community. The award is presented as a plaque.

Dedication Award - Individual need not be a member of LEPA. He/she has provided quality service to the community or public, demonstrated perseverance, and unfailingly provided outstanding assistance and cooperation. Has shown leadership that has improved a process
or contributed to the mission/goals of LEPA. This award is presented as a plaque.
Number awarded per year: Approximately 2
Valor Award - Given to the fire fighter, EMS, police, emergency response personnel or local official who demonstrated courage in the call of duty this year. This award is presented as a plaque.

Founders Award - Individuals who have been key in the establishment and advancement of the mission and success of LEPA will be considered for an award. The award may be given annually at the discretion of the Award Committee and voted on by the LEPA Board of Directors.
Number awarded per year: 1 or at the discretion of the Award Committee and the BOD
LEPA Board Recognition Award(s) - This award is given to the LEPA Board member(s) (the number of
awards to be decided by the committee and as voted on by the BOD) who has provided the greatest contribution to the organization in the past year. These recognition awards will be presented as framed certificates signed by the President and President-elect.
