Chris Guilbeaux was born and raised in Breaux
Bridge, La and joined the Louisiana Army National Guard as a junior in High
School. Upon graduation, Chris completed his initial training and returned to
Breaux Bridge. In October 1982, Chris joined the Active Guard and Reserve (AGR)
Program with the Louisiana National Guard and began his career as an
administrative specialist in the Breaux Bridge Unit. After various positions
throughout Southwest Louisiana (256th Infantry Brigade) which he
served 18 years with, he was select amongst his peers to serve as the Senior
Operations Sergeant for the newly formed 62nd Civil Support Team,
Weapons of Mass Destruction. In May 2000, with very little equipment and
personnel, Chris assisted building, what is known today as one of the most elite
units in the Louisiana National Guard and in the National Guard nation wide.
The Louisiana Civil Support Team was the second team in nation to become
certified by DOD to respond to Chemical, Biological, and Radiological
incidents. After serving 30 months with the CST, and receiving hundreds of
hours in Hazardous Materials Training and Incident Management, Chris retired
with a total of 23 years of service. |
In
June 2002, Chris was appointed in the position of training coordinator for
the Department of Health and Hospital’s Bio Terrorism Program. Within a
short 6 months, Chris was promoted to Deputy Director for the program and
within 8 more months, he was appointed as the Acting Director for the
program after the Director was mobilized for military deployment.
In November 2003, Chris was appointed by the newly elected Sheriff of St.
Martin Parish as the Deputy Chief of Homeland Security and Emergency
Preparedness; he also served as the 911 Director for St. Martin Parish. His
duties included serving as the Chief of Operations for the St. Martin Parish
Sheriffs office whereas he provided leadership and guidance for deputies in
Patrol, Detectives, Narcotics, Juvenile and Court Room Security.
In May 2006, Chris took on a new roll in the civilian sector as
a Hazardous Materials Technician and Project Manager for B & B Fire and
Safety Services Inc. His duties include Project Management for various
operations throughout Louisiana and primarily in the New Orleans area as
well as Emergency Response to HAZMAT incidents throughout Louisiana and the
nation.
Chris is married to the former Robin A. Leonard of Cecilia, La
and has two children, Cody who is 22 years old and is currently in the 256th
Brigade and served a tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and
Jenna, who is 16 years old and is currently a junior at Cecilia Senior High
School.
