Jeffrey P. (Jeff) Meyers is a native of Baton Rouge, La. He received the degree of Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1979. His career includes management experience in the industrial sector in central Texas in surface lignite mining/power generation. He was a civil engineering consultant in St. Petersburg, Florida. Jeff is presently employed with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). He began his career with the DEQ in 1986 as a permit writer in the RCRA Permits Section. In 1989 he changed duties to responding for the agency as a Hazmat emergency responder. Working cooperatively with various state agencies on many environmental issues, Mr. Meyers has responded statewide all these years as a primary responder, supervisor and now as an Environmental Manager of the DEQ Emergency Response Section.  His other responsibilities at DEQ include managing the Single Point of Contact Section (DEQ-SPOC), which receives the agency’s statewide spill/complaint notifications; the agency’s Radiological Emergency Planning and Response Program (DEQ-REP&R) involving nuclear power plant emergency response; and the Chemical Accident Prevention Program (DEQ-CAPP), which administers US-EPA RMP compliance.
