Lawrence Callender is a 28 year career employee of The Dow Chemical Company, serving as Environmental, Health and Safety Senior Technologist at the Louisiana Operations Site in Plaquemine. He services the Design Polymers and Emergency Site Services businesses.  Lawrence previously served as EH&S Contact for the Dupont Dow Plaquemine Elastomers Units, recognized for the elevated level of Environmental, Health and Safety performance within industry. Lawrence is a member of the Louisiana Operations Emergency Response and Fire Brigade.  He additionally designs and controls the site's  

Full Scale Emergency Exercises to test the Louisiana Emergency Operations plans for all hazards. Lawrence was one of the key designers and exercise Lead Controllers recognized by the United States Coast Guard for the 1999 Dow Chemical Louisiana Y2K USCG/OPA 90 Full Scale Exercise. This was the largest peacetime full-scale exercise executed on the Mississippi River. His work with the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association, Louisiana State Police, Parish, National Weather Service and State Offices of Emergency Preparedness resulted in a 2000 LEPA Special Recognition Award.

    Lawrence is a Volunteer for Science with the United States Geological Survey inventing the Flood Tracking Map for the Amite River Basin, which was adopted for use across the USGS. He was awarded The John Wesley Powell Award, the USGS’s highest award for this service. Lawrence is Co-author of several USGS publications: USGS Flood Tracking Chart, USCG Hazardous Spill Response Map Mississippi and Red Rivers, EBR Hurricane Preparedness and Louisiana State Police All Hazards Highway Evacuation Plan. Lawrence is past Commissioner serving Livingston Parish on the Amite River Basin Drainage and Water Conservation District for several years. He is a Louisiana Emergency Manager (LEM), commissioned Law Enforcement Officer in Livingston Parish and Assistant Chief of Police in the French Settlement Police Department, presently serving as a volunteer in Safety and Homeland Defense with Livingston Parish, the Louisiana State Police additional local parishes, Amite River Early Warning Network and the National Weather Service.

   Lawrence was actively involved in the Hurricane Katrina and Rita response as a Special Operations Director for Livingston Parish President.  He was responsible for organizing the deployment and missions from Livingston to a 9 parish impact area of the storms.  These included deployment and security of 75 doctors and nurses flown into Louisiana by Dow Chemical Aviation, directing operations of the Arizona 855 MP Company and other Law Enforcement assets provided by Livingston Parish from New Orleans to west Louisiana for 60 days.  Since the storms of 2005 Lawrence continues work in the recovery and Emergency Preparedness efforts.

   Lawrence additionally coaches American Legion Baseball having completed season play in Cooperstown, New York home to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
